BRP's Rob Morris to judge Young Enterprise Awards

01/03/07

On Saturday 3 February 2007, the Young Enterprise Trade Fair was held in Bracknell’s Princess Square Shopping Centre.

Six Young Enterprise Companies took part in this year’s Trade Fair, showcasing a wide range of their own innovative business ideas and products. Once the judging took place, the Mayor, Councillor Clifton Thompson, presented the award for the best Trade Stand to Acorn Photography from Bearwood College and "Toxic" from Ranelagh School.

A UK registered charity, Young Enterprise was founded in 1963 to run a range of business and enterprise education programmes young people through the support of businesses and volunteers.

The young Enterprise Company programme gives students between the ages of 15 to 19 the opportunity to set up and run their own business for an academic year. This is done with the support of a link teacher from their school and someone from the business community acting as their advisor. The Trade Fair is one of the many events and seminars run for the students throughout the year, which supports and helps to prepare them for the end of year competitions.

The annual Trade Fair is open to all student companies in the South East Berkshire area and gives students the opportunity to raise awareness of their Young Enterprise Company and trial their product or service to the public in a real business environment.

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership’s Retail Manager Rob Morris was a judge at the Trade Fair. He comments: "We are delighted to support this important education programme that helps more than a quarter of a million young people each year. I enjoyed meeting the student companies and congratulate them all for the hard work and commitment they have shown in preparing for the Trade Fair!"

Fay Philp of Young Enterprise South East comments: "The Trade Fair is one of the key events for us, as it offers our student companies the platform to trial their business ideas in a real trading environment. It is a showcase of all their hard work throughout the year and I am delighted with the enthusiasm and professionalism they have all shown today. I want to thank BRP and the management of Princess Square for the support they have given this event."
