Bracknell Flowers in Full Bloom as RHS Judges Visit the Borough

11/07/07

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP), Bracknell Forest Borough Council (the Borough Council) and Bracknell Town Council have been working together to ensure Bracknell Flowers 2007 is the best the borough has ever seen, and next week, representatives from the Royal Horticultural Society will be visiting to measure just that!

Bracknell Flowers represents Bracknell’s entry in the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom competition and this year organisers are hoping to repeat the success of recent years, which saw Bracknell Forest receiving the Silver Gilt Award certificate for best in the large town/small city category for the Thames and Chiltern regional heats four years in a row. RHS representatives will be visiting the town centre on Tuesday 17th July to judge the entry.

Helen Barnett of BRP is looking forward to welcoming judges from RHS, commenting: “Having won best in category for four years running, we are determined to repeat the success and when the RHS judges visit Bracknell Forest next week, they are sure to appreciate the effort and commitment that the team has put into delivering the creative floral displays with strong permanent landscaping that we are all enjoying in the town centre today. The response from local businesses to sponsor Bracknell Flowers 2007 has been overwhelming and we would like to thank our generous sponsors for the support they are showing for Bracknell’s entry in the Britain in Bloom competition.”

Steve McKenna, Landscape Manager at the Borough Council is delighted with the support of the community, saying: “I am very proud of the high standard of environmental quality that we achieve across the borough. We receive great support from residents, volunteer groups and local businesses throughout the year and I believe that working in partnership with the people who live and work in Bracknell Forest is one of the keys to our success.

“This year, we have continued our commitment to an environmentally friendly Britain in Bloom entry. Sustainability initiatives feature strongly in our approach and the use of recycled water, water retaining gel crystals and trickle irrigation systems all contribute to our more sustainable approach in all of our planting across the borough. “Your Gardens”, the borough wide gardening competition that runs alongside Bracknell Flowers, has also been greeted with much enthusiasm and will play a significant part in Bracknell Forest’s success at Britain in Bloom, with judges of previous years commenting on the excellent community involvement and public awareness that Bracknell Forest residents have shown.”

Sponsors of this year’s Bracknell Flowers include Bracknell Regeneration Partnership the Town Council, Land Securities plc, Quintiles, Easthampstead Park, Sejwix, Courtney Coaches, John Nike, Fairview Homes, Bentalls and Fairbrother & Darlow.

The results will be announced in September 2007.
