BBAC HELPS REDUCE CRIME IN THE TOWN CENTRE
26/06/08
Local businesses and retailers are working together to make Bracknell town centre a safe and secure place, as part of the Bracknell Business against Crime scheme.
Under the scheme, each partner agency has access to radios and shares information with town centre CCTV and the police. The radios are controlled 24 hours a day by security officers at Princess Square.
BBAC members share information regarding the activities and whereabouts of known criminals, ensuring that everyone is alerted about any potential threat. Having signed up to strict data protection protocols, they are issued with a target file, containing a description and pictures of any known suspects in the area.
The town centre has seen a significant reduction in crime as a result of the BBAC scheme, shoplifting is down 8.1% from last year and there has been a 14.3% decline in violent crime.
As newly appointed chairperson of BBAC, Clare Rebbeck from Millets comments on the scheme; “I’m really pleased to be part of such a fantastic initiative, which is contributing to make the town safer for those who live in, work and visit the town.
“The scheme has proven extremely successful and we have already seen a reduction in crime rates across the town centre and an increased community spirit as we work together to keep Bracknell safe for everyone.”
