After they were short listed for Bracknell Regeneration Partnerships OSCAs (Outstanding Service to Customer Awards) we caught up with Hakan Mete and Mustafa Koroghi, to see how the owners of FRESCO, the Mediterranean delicatessen are settling in to life in the town centre.
“We have been here now for five months and business is growing. Originally we were based in Manchester, but with family in London we wanted to move closer to home. We looked at various towns outside of the M25 and found Bracknell, which had everything on offer that we wanted.”
“Bracknell presented a great opportunity for us to make a name for ourselves. The Regeneration Partnership had a unit available, which meant we could get our business going straight away.”
The name Fresco means ‘fresh’ in Italian, which sums up the delicatessen. “We wanted a name that described our offering, what we sell and how we sell it. I was on the tube when the name came to me!”
Fresco’s is a delicatessen that prides itself on serving delicious Mediterranean food, such as ciabatta’s and focaccia’s which have become a real favourite with its main lunchtime trade.
During the week its customers mainly consist of office workers. “When we set up, we felt that the businesses in the area were being really under serviced in terms of fresh wholesome lunchtime food. They needed a good proposition like ours that would provide them with quality, imaginative products – the type of food we like to eat ourselves.”
After mostly serving office workers during the week, the weekend sees a variety of visitors come to the deli. Tourists, shoppers and families all pop in to grab a bite to eat and experience the customer service.
“We have a really relaxed atmosphere at Fresco; we don’t wear uniforms or need name badges, we believe in the personal touch. When customers come in, we like to chat to them while we are making their order and help them with their choice.”
“We were thrilled to be nominated for a Bracknell OSCA after just 5 months in the town. It’s a great initiative and the event is fun, I attended and the environment was buzzing. We hope that during the year, we’ll make a big name for ourselves and win one of the prizes next year.”
Fresco is looking to increase its sales with plans to develop its business further in 2008. “Business has been growing well but we are looking to expand into office deliveries. Taking larger orders and delivering to offices in the town centre, so that more people can benefit from the fresh taste of Fresco.”
