Hill sets out vision for town centre's renaissance

22/03/05

Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) has welcomed Planning Minister Keith Hill’s pronouncement this week that thriving town centres should be at the heart of sustainable communities.

Announcing the publication of a new national planning policy statement known as PPS6: Planning for town centres, Mr Hill said:

“The creation of thriving town centres that provide local people with retail, leisure and other facilities they need is of critical importance to our vision of sustainable communities. We want to see a sustainable mix of development which enhances consumer choice and meets the needs of the entire community.”

Responding to Mr Hill’s comments, David Gregory, Development Manager for Bracknell Regeneration Partnership said:

“Keith Hill’s comments endorse the stance that BRP has taken to create a vibrant, diverse and accesible town centre for Bracknell. This is what the 750m development at the centre of our recent outline planning application sets out to achieve. Our proposed scheme, based on the Bracknell Forest Borough Council’s adopted masterplan, is in line with the Government’s own vision for the renaissance of town centres throughout the country.”
